We welcome your ads and we can, at no charge usually, create an ad for you based on your information, subject to you approving a proof. We can also accept your ads as graphics but we want to make sure they reproduce as well as possible, for the very best appearance in our newsletter. These guidelines should help with your submission but feel free to ask if you have a question not covered here.
Digital PHOTOS (photos sent to us
via email or on disk)
Must be at least
300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution (If not 300 dpi, then the size of the
image must be large enough that it allows us to convert the image to 300
dpi at the final output size without loss of resolution. For example, an
image that is 72 dpi and 22” by 15” will convert to an output image
that is 300 dpi at about 3.5 by 5-inche).
Must not be any
smaller in size than the final size they are to be printed at. For
example, a photo received at 1 by 2-inches will not work if the final
output size is to be any larger, such as 4 by 5-inches.
Must be sent as
either TIFF, Photoshop (PSD) or JPEG file format (If JPEG, please avoid
use of high compression as this degrades the quality of the photo).
NOTE: We CANNOT accept Microsoft
Word documents with photos or graphics embedded in them. Word documents
are not picture files.
JUST SAY NO TO MICROSOFT WORD FOR GRAPHICS!
Digital LOGOS (includes logos sent
to us via email or disk)
Our overall
preference is to receive the logo in Adobe Illustrator EPS file format
(This is a vector format and can be scaled and printed clean and sharp
every time). However, since not everyone has this program, a TIFF file
saved at a minimum of 300 DPI will work, usually.
If not in Adobe
Illustrator EPS format, then logos are governed by the same rules as
other digital photos (See above).
Hard copy photos and logos (anything
to be scanned by us from a physical source)
We prefer
original photos (those printed on photo paper from the negatives).
Photos have to be of the very best quality and 4-inches by 6-inches,
minimum. For colour reproduction they must be 8-inches by 10-inches
minimum.
Type and logos DO
NOT scan well. If we must scan a logo, please ensure that the source to
be scanned is fairly large and clean. Please note that we can make no
guarantees about final quality of the logo if we receive it in an
already printed form.
Please remember
that scanning from another printed piece makes it very difficult to
ensure a good reproduction as degradation occurs with every generation
of the image.
